One of dozens of flying jewels in the Butterfly House at The New York State Living Museum aka the Thompson Park Zoo. Perhaps I'm a simpleton, but I just don't get it when I hear people whining about how awful it is to be stationed at Fort Drum. There are so many great family-oriented attractions in the area, and the zoo is just one of them.  Posted by Picasa

I think with alot of bases, the grass is always greener on the other side. Or so I'm learning alot of these days.

Our local base is on the BRAC list to be closed, which has the communities in an uproar because that's 20% of our economy. However, one website, www.closecannon.com seems to have a LOT of disgruntled base folks who can't wait for the base to close down, saying that that Clovis is the worst place in the world, next to only Iraq. And one of the chief complaints is, "There is nothing to do!".
