Well done ladies

But perhaps you could show a little more restraint next time? We all expect the Canadian Women's Hockey team to do well, but trouncing the host country 16-0 is just showing off.

Yes, it would have been nice if the Canadian Ladies Hockey Team had let the Italian Ladies Hockey team at least get one goal.

The time to keep the other team from scoring will be when they reach the finals.

I watched an interview during the CBC Olympic coverage with someone who either was currently or formerly a member of, or somehow attached to, the Canadian Women's hockey team. She said that the Canadian women surely did not want to make the Italians look bad, but because of the rules of scoring for the Olympics, it is important to score as many goals as possible. I think the reason for this is two-fold: a) in case of a tie; and b) to get home ice advantage. I think the team with the most points (which somehow includes goals scored) gets home ice advantage, so when the final game arrives, Canada wants that advantage over its opponent, which will no doubt be the Americans, or will it be...

I also read that the Italian media is not making a big deal about any 'unsportsmanlike' conduct.

It would seems that it is only the Canadian and Americans media that seems to have the idea that they are the only ones who know what we should know about.

perhaps they should just put their note pads and laptops away and try out for the national teams for Canada and United States.
let them try giving up time away from their family, counting pennies, putting in long hours, traveling all over the county, and all the other sacrifices that the women hockey teams have done.

as you can guess, the media is on my list.
